Change to Winter TipsIf you live in a cold area, you may find these winter tips helpful. Your home. Make sure your pipes do not freeze. Frozen pipes often crack or break -- and let all the water out. The damage to your home and furniture may cost a lot of money. Check the pipes in your attic and in other cold spots in the house. If the pipes feel cold, find out how to insulate them so they stay warm. If you are going away, keep the temperature higher than 55º Fahrenheit. Also, let a little water run through the faucet while you are away. Your car. Make sure your windshield wipers are working at all times. Also, put on good winter tires; they will help to keep the car from sliding in the ice and snow. To be safe, put a shovel in the trunk of the car; you may need to dig out your car from the snow.
